0Blingstar RZR XP and XP 4 1000 Combo Package Product Test: WITH VIDEO
Blingstar’s one-step program to customizing your RZR XP and XP4 1000
For many UTV owners, customizing their UTV is as big a deal as owning one. Bumpers, doors, custom roll cages, cage roofs, graphics, and accessory lighting are common add-ons for die-hard UTV enthusiasts. Instead of forcing you to shop around for this part and that part, Blingstar has created their UTV combo packages, including all of the before mentioned products in one convenient bundle. Having recently put Blingstar’s combo package to the test on a RZR XP 4 1000, we were impressed enough with their products that we felt it deserved its own feature review.
Combo Package Parts and Construction
Blingstar’s cage is constructed of 1.75”, .095” thick DOM steel. It features a bolt-on rear section, which ties in the radius rod plate and serves as a rear bumper. The cage is designed to provide more rollover protection, in addition to adding to the overall strength and rigidity of the chassis. Its top is rounded with a low profile appearance. Built-in whip flag mounts make securing whip flags easy. Standard cage colors include black and white with custom color options available for a bit more.
The cage also features a light bar pocket and mounts, where you attach the combo package’s included 31-inch, 160-watt LED light bar. The light bar features spot or flood settings, allowing you to select the type of light to best serve your night driving needs. The light bar is water resistant to withstand the outdoor environment and trips to the car wash, although we wouldn’t get too close with a power washer just to be safe.
While the cage’s aluminum roof helps keep occupants out of the hot sun, Blingstar’s suicide doors further encapsulate the cockpit, aiding in keeping your limbs in and flying debris out. The doors are constructed of 1 ½-inch, 6061 aircraft-grade aluminum. They feature Blingstar’s slam latch, door latch system and are available in a textured black or gloss white powder coat finish standard. Custom colors are available for a bit more.
The combo package is available with either Blingstar’s gladiator or short course bumper, which is designed for competition. Our vehicle featured the more general use, and in our opinion, more stylish Gladiator bumper. The Gladiator bumper is constructed of 1 3/8-inch, 6061 aircraft-grade aluminum and features an interchangeable center plate, available in a textured black powder coat or brushed aluminum.
A Blingstar graphics kit rounds out the package. They’re designed to match and add to the look of the factory graphics. The graphics are flexible and tough, laminated with a 13-mil clear vinyl.
The Test
Allen Knowles, from CT Racing, assembled our RZR XP 4 1000 test unit and reported that all the Blingstar parts bolted up with excellent fitment. With all of these products designed by the same manufacturer, the lines of the cage, doors, and bumper work well together providing a new, unique styling. The color-matched Blingstar graphics build beautifully on the look of the stock graphics, tying in the sides and hood of the car.
The Blingstar suicide doors are light and work well. Opening from front to rear, the opposite of a standard car door, Blingstar’s suicide doors make getting in and out of the RZR easy. The slam latches are mounted at the front of the door, easily within reach. The latch operation is light, smooth, and consistently closes securely.
Blingstar’s cage offered ample headroom in both the front and rear seats, accommodating six-feet tall occupants. The cage’s upper front rail is a little lower than on some cages, adding to the cool, chopped appearance of the cage. In the car, though, taller drivers felt the cage yielded a lower sight line, which made it difficult to see the top of a steep dune while transitioning onto the bottom of the hill. Taller drivers could remove the adjustment rails from under the driver’s seat lowering the seat a couple of inches to gain more upward visibility. Testing all day under perfectly clear skies at Dumont Dunes, the roof was appreciated by all, keeping us out of the blistering sun.
When the sun fades, the extra candlepower of the 31-inch LED light bar was greatly appreciated. Its benefit in visibility is amplified as speeds increase, which happens often in the dunes.
Dollars and Sense
So you are probably asking yourself, how much will I save by purchasing all these items together? Well, off the price of the parts, there is no discount. All of their products in this review are made here in the USA, with the exception of the light bar, which is assembled in the US. In spite of this, Blingstar recently lowered their retail prices, which we found to be substantially lower than the other premium brands we compared them to, and we have seen products from other brands that don’t fit nearly as well.
In addition to Blingstar’s reasonable retail pricing, you will save some serious money on shipping by buying the combo package, as opposed to ordering all of the items individually. We figure you can save around 20% on shipping, which is easily over $100.
Conclusion
We’ve tried Blingstar’s products on a couple different Polaris RZR models, now, and have been equally happy with their fit, function, and style each time. If you like Blingstar’s style, we think you will be at least as happy with its construction and fitment. We’d highly recommend any of the Blingstar products we tried on this RZR 1000, either individually, or as a complete combo package, saving you some cash while enhancing the looks, function, comfort, and safety of your RZR XP1K.
