Powermadd, SportShield Half Windshield, Test:
Less wind and more style with the Powermadd SportShield.
Windshields are a common add-on for UTV enthusiasts for the same reason that they come standard in automobiles. They keep wind, bugs, and debris out of the eyes and faces of the driver and occupants. When modding out our Polaris RZR S, we decided to try out Powermadd’s SportShield half windshield in search of protection, deflection, and style.
The SportShield is made from premium, optical-grade polycarbonate for a brilliant surface and distortion-free viewing. It was designed to push air and dust up and over the riders, while providing a unique style compared to standard, straight half windshields. The Powermadd SportShield attaches to your cage using the included roll bar straps and self-adhering windshield pucks. The roll bar straps feature a rubber undercoating, enhancing grip while protecting your cage’s finish. The windshield pucks give the center of the shield more stability. Installation on the RZR’s stock cage is a snap, and we were able to attach it to our RZR Sharp cage without any special modification. Installation took around 30 minutes.
The Test
Looks are a matter of taste and most people who got a look at Powermadd’s SportShield inked its unique, motorcycle fairing-style design, which adds a lot more to the look of the RZR than a standard straight half windshield. Traveling over 20 mph, it helps deflect wind and dust up and over the occupants. It also helps shield you from flying debris and splashing water. The only complaint came from shorter drivers who felt the curved shape of the SportShield distorted their view of the terrain while crawling along and trying to look directly over the front of the hood.
Overall bracing of the SportShield is a bit on the light side, compared to some models with upper and lower bracing; however, the roll bar straps and hood-mounted pucks seemed sufficient and have virtually no impact on obstructing the view of the trail.
Conclusion
Pricing on the Powermadd SportShield is middle of the road for RZR windshields, but at the higher end of the price spectrum for non-adjustable half windshields. Construction is good and we found it to be pretty scratch resistant. While many windshields look kind of plain and clunky, the SportShield adds function and style at the expense of a little low sight line distortion.
